Topic:
Overcoming Key Infrastructure Challenges with Proven Geofabrics Solutions
Course Overview:
Over the years, Geofabrics has provided engineers with design advice and technical support to address critical infrastructure challenges. In this webinar, Eric Ewe and Abid Ali will showcase how our innovative product solutions offer engineers effective alternatives to traditional methods for managing complex real-world infrastructure problems.
The discussion will cover both above-ground and below-ground geotechnical structures, including detailed case studies and practical applications to achieve successful project outcomes. We will showcase a variety of completed projects, highlighting common engineering challenges and demonstrating how Geofabrics' solutions have effectively addressed them to achieve successful outcomes.
The following case studies will be covered:
- Slope reinstatement works with reinforced soil techniques
- Large scale rockfall protection works with passive protection structures using fences and reinforced soil bund
- Large scale shallow landslide protection works with passive protection structures
- Road widening with high productivity concrete face reinforced soil wall
- Stabilising a new industrial development lot with tall segmental block reinforced soil wall
- Supporting a new mine's facilities with a tall gabion face reinforced soil wall
- Basal reinforced embankment over soft ground
- Sub-ballast stabilisation of a railway track bed over soft ground
- Bearing capacity improvement for a culvert over soft ground
Speakers:
Eric Ewe
Eric Ewe is the Slope and Walls Technical BDM for Geofabrics. He is specialist engineer with more than 26 years of experience, specialising in designing reinforced soil slopes and walls, slope rehabilitation works, slope stability analysis and rockfall protection structures. One of his assignments included being part of the panel for the “MBIE Rockfall Protection Structures Design Considerations Guideline”.
Abid Ali
Dr. Abid Ali is an Application Engineer at Geofabrics, based at the GRID (Geosynthetic Research, Innovation & Development) laboratory on the Gold Coast. He completed his PhD at the University of Newcastle in 2016 and
has 8 years of industry experience. At Geofabrics, Abid is responsible for managing technical queries related to
the use of geosynthetics for various civil engineering applications such as roads, railways, mining, and waste containment. He regularly liaises with designers, asset owners and contractors, helping them achieve the most optimal solution using geosynthetics for their projects. He has a special interest in numerical modelling techniques and how it can be utilised to characterise the benefits of geosynthetics in civil engineering projects.
